An adrenaline rush

Gloves, pants, jackets, helmet, earplugs, and the bike ready for the adventure. A motorcycle trip from Cambridge to Cotswold full of adrenaline and excitement, with a rider who took care of every detail so I could feel completely safe.

Putting your absolute trust in the person who is driving and surrendering to the enjoyment of what this chemical compound called adrenaline causes, which the body secretes through the adrenal glands to react quickly in dangerous situations that require us to be alert and active.

My eyes always had to be on the road to know how to react when he braked or if we were going into a curve. It is a full connection with observation.

When was the last time you felt adrenaline? How would you describe the physical and emotional sensation of an adrenaline rush? Have you intentionally sought situations that provoke an adrenaline rush, such as extreme sports? What techniques do you use to calm down after a stressful situation, or do you always seek that adrenaline rush?

While on the bike, one of the reflections I had was that this feeling of stress in my body every day is not something I want to live with daily, although I must confess it caused excitement in me, and I thought, and this question came to me: how are other people in the world experiencing adrenaline right now?

Yesterday, while I was with an Irish friend, we talked a bit about history and politics, about what is happening in Palestine, about our role as citizens, the people coming from Ukraine, the Africans arriving in boats, and I started to think about the adrenaline that women, men, and children might be feeling daily not knowing if they will live through the day. That same adrenaline of being alert and in survival mode, that same adrenaline that I said last Sunday: "I couldn't live in this state of tension every day."

Yesterday, thanks to Carmen Ibarra's art exhibition showing abuses against women in times of war, I got goosebumps thinking about how these women might be feeling the adrenaline. I feel the emotion in my throat, and I want to scream ENOUGH!

There is much to do in our society, and I don't know how much I can do as a citizen. Today, I have decided to write as a reminder to whoever reads this. I felt a shot of adrenaline today when I heard about a case of a woman who was beaten by a man, and it brought back memories of my ex. Today, I am sitting, writing what ChatGPT cannot; I write to you from the sensitivity of human existence to invite you to empathize with the human realities out there.

Today the story is short, simple but deep.

Recommendations for the week:

Observe your surroundings and connect with your environment. What is happening beyond your routine?

A series on Netflix: Sex, Love and Goop
